Beginnings are scary. Endings can be sad. It's what you do in the middle that counts.

This journey began November 17, 1923 when John and Lula (Houser) White gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and named her Gladys Normalee White. Gladys was born and raised in Centerville, Iowa where graduated from Centerville High School. She worked for a few years at McClellans Store as a bookkeeper. She met the man of her dreams, Percy W. Hamilton at a dance in Centerville. They married on August 10, 1945. They moved to Rockford, Illinois in 1947 where she built a loving home for her husband and four children. She spent her days doing what she loved, raising her kids and caring for many other kids in her home, then working and directing church daycares. Her ministry was caring and loving children.

She loved cooking and her meals were delicious. She enjoyed putting together a Nazarene or Wesleyan potluck dinner or a family get together. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Nobody was a stranger, just a person she hadn't met yet. She never judged people, just loved them all unconditionally. Everyone was always welcomed in her home and her heart.

She enjoyed Sunday services, Sunday drives in the country and stopping for ice cream. That was family time. She was a member of Samuelson Road Church of the Nazarene and loved her church family. She loved going to gospel singings and listening to the old hymns. She taught Sunday school, Bible School, and Pioneer Girls and was the Youth leader for many years. She was an extraordinary role model for all, someone they could look up to. She enjoyed helping David with crossword puzzles, painting ceramics, loving on her 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and many other kids she claimed as her own. She was always willing to give a "Grandma Hug".

Her journey on this earth ended on August 10, 2017 when God called His angel home to be with her husband Percy; son Roger; daughter-in-law, Rose; grandson, David Hicks; mother and father John and Lula; brothers, Robert Norman and Dewey Leon; sister Merilou. What a wonderful "home coming".

She is survived by her children, Ronald (Karen) Hamilton, Carol (Buford) Hicks and David Hamilton; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
